Introduction
Garden is considered to be an earthly copy of a heavenly paradise (lost and newly-found), a symbol of the soul and life in its best state – blossom. And what is black? – the color of the darkness, mourning, death… What is a black garden then? What is life and what is death? Is it possible to blossom during the night?
“Black Garden” is a documentary play based on the memories of child eyewitnesses of the first war in Nagorno-Karabakh more than 30 years ago (Karabakh means "black garden" in Turkic). The main goal of the play is to make the audience feel the horror prism of a child's perception.
Result
The Garden is an unseen witness. A tree always strives upwards regardless of the geopolitical situation and even when it is destroyed it leaves behind a huge root system that is sure to bear fruit. This is why we used the tree as the basis for our graphics, which changes throughout the play but always strives to return to its natural state.
